Critical Authentication Bypass in miniOrange OAuth SSO Plugin Allows Unauthenticated WordPress Admin Takeover (CVE-2026-57807)

Our Cyber Threat Intelligence Unit has identified a critical authentication bypass vulnerability, CVE-2026-57807, in the miniOrange OAuth Single Sign-On – SSO (OAuth Client) plugin for WordPress, affecting versions through 38.5.8. The vulnerability was reported by researcher Kim Dvash on June 6, 2026, disclosed by Patchstack on July 9, 2026, and published to NVD on July 10, 2026. Patchstack has assigned a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.8 (Critical); NIST/NVD has not yet published an independent assessment. The vulnerability allows an unauthenticated network attacker with no user interaction to exploit the plugin's password recovery mechanism to gain administrator-level access, enabling persistent server-side compromise including malicious plugin installation, code modification, account creation, content changes, and backdoor implantation.
No official patch is currently available from miniOrange. Patchstack has issued a virtual mitigation rule that blocks both legitimate and illegitimate SSO requests as an interim measure, which will disrupt normal SSO functionality; organizations should prepare fallback authentication plans. There is no confirmed evidence of active exploitation as of July 13, 2026, but Patchstack assesses the vulnerability as likely to be targeted in mass-exploitation campaigns given its low complexity and lack of authentication requirements.

Attack Chain:
Initial Access: Attacker identifies a WordPress site running the vulnerable plugin version remotely, with no authentication or user interaction required.
Exploitation Method: Attacker leverages an alternate path within the OAuth client's authentication logic to bypass standard login controls and trigger the password recovery workflow for any account, including administrator accounts.
Credential Compromise: Manipulated password recovery allows the attacker to reset credentials and log in with administrator privileges.
Post-Exploitation: Attacker can install malicious plugins, edit theme or plugin code, create additional accounts, alter site content, steal stored data and configuration secrets, redirect visitors, and implant a backdoor that survives removal of the original vulnerable component.

• Disable or remove the miniOrange OAuth SSO plugin immediately on all internet-facing WordPress sites until an official patch is released.

• Prepare to restore from a known-good backup if unauthorized changes or accounts are detected
• Monitor miniOrange's official channels and apply the vendor patch as soon as it is released, confirming the update explicitly addresses CVE-2026-57807.
• Increase monitoring for unusual account creation or administrative activity.
• Conduct periodic security audits and penetration testing to identify related weaknesses.
Conclusion
